Sheltering Cattle, Caithness

Many of the walls in Caithness are made from Caithness Flagstone, a very durable and versatile type of sand-stone sourced locally.
It was also used for paving, roofing and fire places and at the height of its production was exported throughout the world.
I was attracted by this rather haphazard flagstone 'dyke' and the group of cattle sheltering against it during a squall. The light was
changing constantly, and the rain was coming and going - typical Caithness weather, but beautiful in its own way.

Cattle sheltering during squall against Caithness flagstone wall. Black and white
